/ Cultural Activities

The Dominican Republic offers a wide variety of cultural activities (shows, concerts, theaters, cinemas, fairs, museums, galleries, exhibitions…).

The Plaza de la Cultura in Santo Domingo (Máximo Gómez Ave.) is a cultural center with different museums, a library, restaurants and a quiet place to walk and exercise. If you like the theatre, you can enjoy excellent performances at the "Teatro Nacional", both national plays and great international musicals. La Plaza de la Cultural encompasses the most significant theaters and museums of the city:

Teatro Nacional (National Theater)
Galería de Arte Moderno (Gallery of Modern Art)
Museo de Historia Dominicana (Museum of Dominican History)
Museo Nacional de Historia Natural (National Museum of Natural History)
Museo Nacional de Historia y Geografía (National Museum of History and Geography)
Cinemateca (National Movie Theater)
Biblioteca Nacional (National Library)

The Museo de Las Casas Reales recreates the life of Hispaniola inhabitants in the colonial era. It is located at the Colonial Zone.

Other attractions are The National Aquarium, the Faro a Colon, the Guácara Taína (a night club with several dance floors), the Cueva de los Tres Ojos (a cave with more or less 15 meters of depth and four underground lakes); these special places turn Santo Domingo into a city with unlimited possibilities.

Amusement parks, movies, cultural events, fairs and carnivals; guarantee inexpensive recreation in the capital city. The Botanical Garden, considered one of the most beautiful gardens of Latin America, is an excellent alternative for family recreation on Sundays, or simply ideal to go for walks in a natural environment that includes endemic and imported species of plants.

Other than Santo Domingo, each province offers its own cultural attractions. The widely anticipated carnivals become the delight of thousands of dominicans and tourists each year. The Carnaval Vegano, is well known for its "Diablos cojuelos".

Santiago de los Caballeros offers the "Gran Teatro del Cibao" and several cultural centers.
